Ralph Zuranski created an imaginary secret super hero at the age of seven. He needed emotional encouragement and psychological
support to deal with all the pain and suffering of chronic sickness, hyperactivity and weakness.
Many of the children considered Ralph a little strange. They labeled him as a Poindexter-type nerd. The black horn-rimmed glasses, large nose and big ears were targets for cruel
verbal abuse. Kids ridiculed his appearance said he was the model for "Mr. Potato Head." Ralph's only escapes were wandering the deserted beaches and cliffs of Ocean Beach and reading comic books
about super heroes like Superman, Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Fantastic Four and Spiderman.
At the age of thirteen, depressed and discouraged at his plight of being a five foot, 99 pound weakling nerd, Ralph decided to start working with weights, begin surfing and playing tennis.
He believed that muscles, surfing and tennis would allow him to vanquish his antagonists.
Muscles, surfing and tennis created an entire new set of problems through high school and college. When life became too difficult to handle, Ralph still relied on emotional support and
advice from his secret super hero. Ralph never told anyone about his friend for fear they would think him crazy.
While involved in the skateboard industry as a consultant, Ralph finally named his hero "Captain Biorhythm," in honor of his faith in the usefulness of biorhythms in preventing
accidents and injuries. The Captain's first public appearance was on Sunday, October 31, 1976 at the Master's Slalom Skateboard Race at La Costa. Ralph feared he would be injured. Biorhythms
predicted an emotionally unstable day. Ralph dreaded he would crash while riding through slalom cones down a steep asphalt hill.
Ralph wanted to get the message of safety in skateboarding across to young skaters, to wear elbow and knee pads, wrist braces, and helmets. As General Manager of Sidewalk Surfparks Of
Fountain Valley, he witnessed too many preventable injuries.
50% of the injuries could have been eliminated if the skaters received a positive incentive to be extra careful on their critical days. Ralph decided, "people need to become aware of the
value of biorhythms in maximizing performance in all areas of life and minimizing accidents and injuries."
In 1980-1981, Captain Biorhythm served as Technical Director of Family Fitness Centers in charge of health research. As the Holistic Health Guinea Pig he explored the benefits
of new and ancient methods for improving health. During this time Ralph became aware of the research on the functions and characteristics of the right and left brain hemispheres. He realized Captain
Biorhythm was his right brain personality. Captain
Biorhythm was the fantasy character inside Ralph's mind that personified his dream of becoming balanced in all areas of life. The Captain was the hero inside Ralph, like Superman and Batman, who overcame
all obstacles, stayed balanced, never got upset, and always did well. The Captain was everything Ralph was not; confident, selfless, loving, spontaneous and intuitive. Ralph's childhood fantasy of becoming
a hero became reality. The writing on his costume is a test
of the balance of the brain hemispheres. 75% of the people fail the brain integration test. They cannot shift over into the right brain hemisphere. Through humor subconscious techniques he helps them tune
into the amazing abilities of their right brains. Ralph encourages each student to develop their right brain personality to help them in stressful situations and times of crisis. Everyone got sick of
saying Captain Biorhythm so they started to call him Captain Bio.
Captain Bio believes people can gain levels of physical and mental performance better than they expected, with balanced bodies and brains. Once people understand the separate functions of
the left and right brain hemispheres they can master the inner game of life.
Captain Biorhythm says, "The right brain is where creativity, spontaneity, intuition, orientation in space, super memory and athletic performance reside. Learn how your mind works. You to
can do miracles. You have the seed of greatness. Every person can make a difference. The world needs you. The time is now to become balanced in all areas of life. Learn to use the right and left sides of
your body and brain. If we can make peace between the two halves of our brains and gain balance, we can change the world for the better." |
