Where Are We In The Control Of Cancer Presently?

In the early 1970's this country, under the direction of President Nixon, declared war on cancer. The assumption was made that in order to solve to surge of cancer all we had to do was throw tons of money at it.

The money tossing became the backbone of how vested interest gained control of where all of your cancer research monies would go and of course who would get it, Our government empowered (God I hate this term) the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Health as the overseer of research grants (meaning your hard earned tax dollars).

Now the concerned industries, educational entities, and entrepreneurs began to call in all of their markers from their friends, colleagues, associates, beholders, and would be potential associates within the governmental organizations. All demanded that monies be directed to their institutions and pockets.

Needless to say on the surface most of the so called grants were, and still are, approved for their potential merits toward the resolution of the problems of cancer. Unfortunately, it's hard for the entrepreneur to reach a point in his efforts that might end in his own termination, such as a solution to the problems at hand. I call this the Carrow Axiom No: 1 "Never cut off your nose to spite your financial face"). Stop and think about it, if your salary is $500,000 per year as the CEO of let's say Cancer Solutions International you certainly don't want one of your employees solving the problem, especially if your company is dependent on government grant monies. Need I say more!

Over the past twenty plus years of your government's 'war on cancer' it has cost us close to 30 billion dollars in most questionable research. We're are still stuck with the flawed theories of the cause of cancer---as you might expect many of our so called elite of the research academia still feel that cancer is genetic in origin; most ignore the remote possibility that maybe, just maybe, cancer may be the result of our failure to explore the simple obvious---we are doing it to ourselves as suggested above.

Yes I know that you can rarely pick up the newspaper or a magazine that give anything other than lip service to the environmental and lifestyle causes of cancers. Unfortunately, it stops there. We have spawned a new type of researcher; he is one who accounts only to the vested interest and one who seeks their own personal dreams of glory--maybe in hopes of winning the Noble Prize, who knows?

I suppose by now you, like I, have noted that the government and its affiliated medical research systems have found other scapegoats---the tobacco and alcohol industries. Don't miss my point; I am not defending these people. Obviously, their products have greatly added to the overall numbers of people who develop cancers. I am, however, trying to place these industries into some type of prospective to the multitude of known causes of cancers.

Recently, I had the privilege of attending a seminar in which Professor Samuel Epstein, professor pathology at the University of Illinois Chicago campus, delivered his assessment of the cancer industry and how they perpetrate the myth of just what is the major cause of the explosive indigence of cancer throughout the world. Professor Epstein mixed no words, he came right to the point leveling direct attacks on our love of the petrochemical industry.

He presented statistics to document that the incidence of cancer is directly proportional to the growth of the petrochemical industry; remember these are the guys who make all of the wonderful chemicals we use as insecticides, pesticides, plastics, etc. He suggested that for every dollar these industries spend to create new chemicals for better living though chemistry, we spend two for the research and treatment of cancers.

Oh! keep in mind the 30 billion dollars of wasted research monies. Though large in magnitude, it doesn't compare to the 1.5 trillion spent by you and I in the treatment of cancer during the same period. Remember, all of this is the result of your government misusing your monies for the self serving vested interests whose least desirable goal is a cure for cancer.
